You Can’t Change What You Can’t Measure

January 5, 2026
Welcome to another beautiful week. When an idea sparks that I think is worth sharing, it becomes this weekly newsletter. If something hits home, write back. I love conversations. This is Weekly Spark #32.
Happy New Year. Welcome to 2026 and the first weekly spark of this year!
Before we rush into goals, habits, resolutions, and big declarations for 2026, I want to pause with you for a moment.
Here’s a simple truth that has shaped how I approach growth: You can’t change what you can’t measure.
Most people don’t fail at change because they lack motivation.
They fail because they don’t have clarity on where they actually stand.
They feel stuck. They sense misalignment. They know something is off.
But feelings alone don’t give direction. Measurement does.
Why Most New Year Intentions Fade
Every January, we say things like:
“This year will be different.”
“I want more balance.”
“I need clarity.”
“I want to do meaningful work.”
But without a baseline, these stay abstract.
Imagine trying to improve your fitness without knowing:
your current strength
your stamina
your recovery
Life is no different.
If you want 2026 to be intentional, not accidental, you need to start by measuring where you are today.
The Four Dimensions That Matter Most
Over years of coaching individuals, founders, and teams, I’ve noticed something consistent: Real progress happens when people build strength across four core dimensions:
1. Clarity
Do you know what matters to you right now?
Or are you reacting to everyone else’s expectations?
2. Courage
Are you having the conversations you’re avoiding?
Taking the actions you know you need to take?
3. Action
Are your intentions translating into consistent behaviour?
Or are you busy without momentum?
4. Impact
Does your work and life actually matter to you — and to others?
Or are you just moving fast?
When one of these is weak, growth feels hard. When all four are visible, change becomes possible.
Why We Built the Ignite Life Scorecard
I kept seeing the same pattern with coachees: They wanted change. But they didn’t know where to start. So we built a simple tool to answer one question:
“Where am I, really?”
The Ignite Life Scorecard helps you:
Measure your current state across Clarity, Courage, Action, and Impact
Spot blind spots you might be ignoring
Create a grounded starting point for 2026
It’s not a personality test. It’s not a diagnosis.
It’s a mirror. And sometimes, that’s all you need.
How to Use It Well
Set aside 10 quiet minutes.
Answer honestly, not aspirationally.
This isn’t about judging yourself.
It’s about telling yourself the truth.
Once you know where you stand, you can:
Decide what to focus on (instead of fixing everything)
Choose the right next step
Build momentum without overwhelm
Final Spark
2026 doesn’t need to be perfect. But it can be intentional.
And intention begins with awareness.
If you want this year to be different, don’t start by changing everything.
Start by measuring.
