Welcome to another beautiful week. When an idea sparks that I think is worth sharing, it becomes this weekly newsletter. If something hits home, write back. I love conversations. This is Weekly Spark #41.

We spend an incredible amount of time upgrading our devices, our apps, and now our AI tools. Every year, we look for faster technology, smarter systems, and better automation. Yet very few of us spend the same energy upgrading the software that actually runs our lives - our Inner Operating System.

That inner software quietly shapes everything. It influences how we lead meetings, how we respond to pressure, and how we make decisions when uncertainty shows up. Many leaders I meet are incredibly capable people with strong experience and credentials, yet inside their minds, a different script is often running.

The brain constantly whispers doubts -

“What if I’m not good enough?”

“What if someone discovers I don’t belong here?”

“What if this decision fails?”

That voice does not disappear simply because we achieve more. In fact, sometimes success makes it louder.

During the podcast conversation, Barbara shared something that resonated deeply with me.

Even when she was working at one of the most respected tech companies in the world, surrounded by brilliant people, she still felt like an imposter. She had patents with her name on them. She worked with senior leadership. And yet her mind kept whispering:

Someone will uncover the truth, and I’ll be doomed.

That voice is familiar to many of us.

The brain has a negative bias. It constantly searches for threats. And unless we upgrade the software that runs that voice, it keeps repeating the same old scripts.

So how do we actually upgrade our inner system?

Barbara described a framework that I loved because it is simple and practical.

Think of your growth like a tree.

1. Start with the Roots - Your Values

Values are your foundation. For me, they are discipline, presence, freedom, love, and growth. When your roots are clear, decisions become easier. You stop chasing approval and start building alignment.

2. Strengthen the Trunk - Your Attitude

Your attitude is not random. It is shaped by your thoughts, habits, and limiting beliefs.

A simple example. You are presenting in a meeting. Your boss suddenly gets up and walks out. Your brain immediately says:

“I’m boring.”

“This presentation is terrible.”

“I’m getting fired.”

But what if the boss simply had another meeting?

Upgrading your inner software means learning to pause and question the story your brain is telling you.

3. Grow the Branches - Your Superpower

Once your roots and trunk are strong, something interesting happens. Your natural strengths start to become clearer. Your superpower is usually hidden inside the patterns of your life.

As artificial intelligence becomes more powerful, one idea stood out strongly to me.

Machines can optimise almost anything, but humans must decide what is worth optimising. That kind of clarity only comes when we slow down long enough to reflect. In many ways, the real leadership challenge today is not learning faster technology. It is learning to upgrade our own inner software so that we can lead ourselves and others more consciously.

And as you go into your week, ask yourself one simple question:

What part of my inner software needs an upgrade right now?

This is Utkarsh, signing off!

Hint - watch the full episode with Barbara right now to start the ‘upgrading the inner software’ process! 🙂
